Preparation for IIFT
Quantitative Aptitude (Quant):
IIFT is essentially a speed test with moderate level of difficulty. For Quant with basic understanding of the topics, viz, Algebra (Eqn., Log, Seq. & series), Geometry (2D, 3D), P&C and Probability, Elementary number system, and Arithmetic (%, P/L, SI/CI, TSD, T&W, Ratio & Proportion, Mixtures), one can handle most of this section comfortably barring an occasional problem from complex numbers, LP, infinite series etc. One has to get acclimatized with solving the highly verbose problems with accuracy and speed by practising the previous years’ papers. To facilitate the understanding, the author has designed the solutions in a very structured and elaborate manner using tables, diagrams and other props. Wherever possible, alternative solutions and notes to highlight important points have been provided. The structured form of data helps in evolving the solution and mistakes are minimized. Also, strategy of solution (the thought process) can be seen through the solutions. So, out of 11 solved tests, one can do hands-on practice with the earlier 6-tests to build up the comfort level and the latest 5-tests as mocks for assessment and to build up the test taking strategy.
Logical Reasoning (LR):
LR is the easiest and the highest scoring section. Minimal practice is required. One should focus on Input-Output, Grid, Family-tree, Syllogism, and Sequence/Pattern based problems.
Data Interpretation (DI):
DI for IIFT is hardcore interpretation of data and number crunching with minimal reasoning. The number-crunching has to be done judiciously (accuracy and time). There are challenges in the form of lengthy calculations, ambiguity of language and time constraint. All these have been taken care of by elaborate and structured solutions. Notes and direct solutions have been pointed out as and when visible.
Finally, while attempting the tests as mocks, all the sections to be allocated time so as to maximize the score, and of course, sequencing of the sections will depend on the individual.
