With the declaration of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE ) results, some shifts in the trends have been revealed about the entrance exam.
In the year 2013, as many as 9, 84, 855 candidates appeared for the exam. The number of candidates, who appeared for the test in the year 2014 were 8, 89,156 candidates which was 10 % less than the previous year. Further, the current year’s statistics also highlight a drop of around 11% in the number of aspirants for the GATE exam. A total of 9, 27, 580 candidates had registered for GATE 2015 and 8, 04, 463 candidates have appeared for the examination.
In terms of the number of candidates appeared, the five largest papers are: Mechanical Engineering (185758), Electronics and Communication Engineering (172714), Electrical Engineering (125851), Computer Science and Information Technology (115425), and Civil Engineering (101429) .
The last two year statistics also reveal that the number of aspirants for ME and CE branches has increased, whereas for CSE, ECE and EE it has gone down. Given below is the comparison data table for ME, ECE, EE, CSE and CE.
